Update on measles outbreak declared on Merseyside

A measles outbreak has been declared on Merseyside. There are 13 confirmed and 16 suspected cases ranging in age from nine months to adults aged in their 20s. Six people, four children and two adults, required treatment in hospital. This compares to just one confirmed case on Merseyside in the first six weeks of 2011 and one in the corresponding period of 2010.

Update on Legionnaires’ Cluster Associated with a Hotel in Spain

10 February 2012, 1400hrs. The Health Protection Agency (HPA) has this week been alerted by the Spanish public health authorities about a further case of Legionnaires’ Disease in a UK resident who stayed at the Diamante Beach Hotel in Calpe, Costa Blanca, as well as two French cases. This brings the total number of UK residents associated with this cluster to 12, with three deaths.

We make every effort to give the best service possible to everyone who attends our practice.

However, we are aware that things can go wrong resulting in a patient feeling that they have a genuine cause for complaint. If this is so, we would wish for the matter to be settled as quickly, and as amicably as possible.

Simply contact the Managing Partner and he will set all the necessary wheels in motion. Further written information is available on the complaints procedure from our Patient Advisors.

We are continually striving to improve our service. Any helpful suggestions would be much appreciated and a suggestion box is located in the waiting area.

The practice aims to provide quality services which meet the needs of our patients.

1. You will be treated as an individual and will be given courtesy and respect at all times irrespective of your ethnic origin, religious belief, personal attributes or the nature of your health problems.

2. Following discussion you will be given the most appropriate care by suitably qualified people. No care or treatment will be given without your consent.

3. You have the right to see your medical records, subject to any limitations in law, which will be kept confidential.

4. We will give you full information about the services we offer. Every effort will be made to ensure that you receive any information which directly affects your health and the care being offered.

5. When attending the surgery you can expect to be informed of any excessive delays.

6. The practice is committed to monitoring the care given to you by secondary care organisations such as hospitals.

TO ENABLE THIS COMMITMENT WE NEED YOU TO HELP US!

1. Come to the surgery whenever possible. If an appointment has been made you are responsible for keeping it. If you are unable to come please inform us. That time will then be available to somebody else.

2. If several family members are ill make separate appointments for everyone.

3. Some consultations are unexpectedly long and may lead to emergency admissions to hospital. This can cause clinics to run behind time, you will be informed of the delay and we ask that you are tolerant.

4. The doctor can see many more patients at surgery than by going out to visit. Most children can be brought to surgery and this will enable a more prompt consultation than waiting for a home visit.

Should you have any complaints regarding the service you receive, then please direct them to our practice manager in writing. Alternatively, ask at reception for a form, which will include instructions and notification of your rights. Freedom of Information

The Freedom of Information Act 2000 recognises that members of the public have the right to know how public services are organised and run, how much they cost and how the decisions are made.

Violence Statement

The practice considers aggressive behaviour to be any personal, abusive and/or aggressive comments, cursing and/or swearing, physical contact and/or aggressive gestures.

The practice will request the removal from the practice list, of any patient who is aggressive or abusive towards a doctor, member of staff, other patient, or who damages property.

All instances of actual physical abuse on any doctor or member of staff, by a patient or their relatives, will be reported to the police as an assault.

We are a Zero Tolerance Practice.
